Who would have thought there could be so many ways of heating water!
Must look at exactly which system our daughter has next time I visit.
I thought it was an unvented cylinder system, which sounds like what you have DTD, but OH insists it is a vented thermal store system. Hence my comment on it being different from stored hot water.
Whatever it is, it looks very complicated!0 -

I find it confusing. I just have a combi that heats water on demand and the heating to radiators is done via radio controlled thermostat, which can be programmed to provide different temperatures depending on time of day.
The OP did not say which Megaflow they had, as they do produce different models. The one I looked at had 2 immersion heaters within the cylinder, hence the concern for the OP if this was switched on permanently, when the central heating boiler would be cheaper in producing hot water. The comments I post are personal opinion. the one with two immersions is direct ie used without a boiler, the OP has a boiler so it will be indirect & only have one immersion which would be used for backup only if the boiler failed, if the cylinder isn't upto temp then the OP will very soon run out of hotwater so depending how much hot water is needed it might be better to keep it on, one of the other posters were talking about a thermal store which is different, a thermal store should be left perm on & the boiler set to max tempI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
