Incorrect Credit Rating Info Shared

Hi,
I have lurked for a while without posting but thought I would join up.
My energy supplier has shared negative credit information but has now thankfully realised their mistake.
They have offered to remove the bad credit marks and provide written confirmation that they have done so.
However, my cousin was telling me that something similar happened to him a few years ago. Although he got confirmation that the adverse information had been removed, when he went into the bank for a business loan, there was still a trace of it on his account. He says he was told that even if removed, it will show up for up to two years.
Is this right? It seems that if i get written confirmation that they have removed it then that should be that?
Thanks

You should obtain copies of your credit files from the 3 CRAs for £2 each to verify for yourself. Allow at least a month after you receive the confirmation from the energy supplier before ordering them.
Obviously you should be asking the energy supplier to pay for these...now!
Edited to add...when a building society shared incorrect data on my CRA files, we settled on £250 of goodwill/compensation. But your 'issue' may not be as serious as mine was, so don't build your hopes up!0 -
I'll look into it, if there is a trace on the file then the written confirmation I have been offered would seem to be worthless!
Thanks for the quick reply.0 -
Possibly not "worthless". I too received confirmation...but they hadn't actually done it. That's one of the reasons I got the £250 (see my edit above).UltraVires wrote: »I'll look into it, if there is a trace on the file then the written confirmation I have been offered would seem to be worthless!0
