Advice on penalty charge

Hi
Hope someone can advise me on this.
I parked in a train station car park owned by South West Trains and being in a hurry, i totally forgot to pay the parking fee of £7 for the day. I usually pay via an iphone app but was in a rush and forgot. Needless to say i received a penalty charge from CP-Plus ltd (they are members of BPA) charging me a penalty of £80!!!!!!
Whilst i admit i am totally responsible for this error, it does appear to be disproportionate to the cost of £7 for the day
Do you think there is any point in writing to them on this point?

Does the ticket state penalty?
does it mention bylaw 14
does it mention protection of freedoms act, and/or POPLA?From the Plain Language Commission:

Please search the forum for 'CP Plus station penalty' and do the same in a Google search with those exact words BUT ONLY READ 2014 THREADS - NOT OLDER ONES!
This has been covered loads of times in 2014 and their tickets are a little bit different - I expect it is headed up 'Penalty Notice' rather than 'Parking Notice'?
Does it offer POPLA appeal? I assume not in which case ignore it. If I got one of these 'penalty notices' I would ignore it because we know CP Plus just refer them to Debt Recovery Plus (pen pusher call centre) so you'll get some letters. Big deal - JUNK MAIL ONLY They don't refer them to the Train Operator and nothing happens.
