Hostelbookers

In February we booked a hotel in Paris through Hostelbookers.com who took a nominal deposit and sent an email saying it was all booked. When we turned up in Paris two weeks ago, 7pm on a Friday evening we were told that there was no booking and they had no rooms available. The receptionist had to spend 30 mins ringing neighbouring hotels and we ended up having to stay in a hotel nearby for 100 euros more than we had originally booked for. It was stressful and cost a lot more money than we had budgeted for. I contacted Hostelbookers with my complaint and they have tried to fob me off by returning the original deposit. I will not let it go but does anyone have any advice? I am now massively out of pocket and had no choice in the matter.
