This is one for your local council. They have a duty to deal with vermin. They will lay down poison.
You should not need to pay, the service is included in your council tax bill.0 -
Yes, the place is mine, not rented. What are soft blocks?
I rang the council as have others. They said they will help for over £100.
That is Hounslow for you, one of the most disgustingly run councils in the UK.

Thermalite blocks, soft "breeze blocks in essence.
Good for insulation and very easy to remove. Rats can easily chew through them if they have nothing else to do, but they will likely go elsewhereI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
does sealing a chimney from the roof damage the building in anyway? Cause damp etc?0
-
not at all, it's just like having a hole in your roof that you are sealing, may actually help keep heat in your house. you could look at something like chicken wire over the top of the flue? rats could chew through this is they wanted (they can chew through anything!) but will probably move along (unless they can smell food or something, they'll be back).0

If u r sure eats coming from OUTSIDE of house and entering through chimney them put chimney cowels at top of chimney. It has small holes for ventilation but not bug enough for rats to enter.0

have you considered that this rat might be Santa Claus?0

That is dreadful, they really should not be making additional charges for this. Is it worth chasing this up with the environmental health people.
I had a problem with rats in my garden and our local council dealt with it at no extra charge.0 -
Hounslow is infamous. Rubbish left on the streets for weeks, rats everywhere, roads are how imagine Kabul's. Just a total dump of a council borough...0
