Question regarding bank switching service - Do they contact employer direct?

Evening All,
I was just wondering if anyone can confirm if during the Bank switch service they contact your employer direct to change wages payments into the new account, even if the wages didn't go into the old original account you are switching from?
The reason I ask is.
I have just successfully changed my main current account that my wages go into etc to the Halifax and scooped the £100 switching bonus. I want to keep the new Halifax account as the one my wages goes in to and all my DD's come out of.
I have another old current account with Santander that I don't use for anything and it has no money in it. Rather than close it I thought I'd switch to M&S to bag the £125 gift card. What I don't want to happen though is for M&S to directly contact my employer to divert my wages from my new Halifax account to my M&S one.
Can anyone please advise?
I hope this makes sense.
Thanks

Shouldn't do if you have used the new 7 day switch service.
Credits are re-directed, so when your employer sends your wage to your old bank it re-directs to Halifax, this happens for 13mths, and Halifax notify your employer to update their records and will do so until they amend. The same would apply should anyone else credit your old account.
With your Santander account, unless anything is credited to this account after you have switched M&S will not do anything.
This clear for you?0 -
Brilliant,
Thank you for the reply.
I shall apply for the M&S account for the £125 gift card, providing I get accepted thats a total of £225 for filling out a couple of forms
