Outdoors is full of insects. Most of them aren't a problem. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

If they are woodlice http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodlouse, they are pretty much harmless. They eat rotting wood and similar things; anything that isn't already dead gets left alone. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
If they eat wood, wouldn't that be a bad thing if they get inside the property. Apologies new home owner so just getting to grips with these things0

Hiya! Don't worry about them, gardens are full of weird and wonderful insects, they go about their business and won't cause any harm
They're important too in their own way, breaking down soil and adding nutrients and helping plants grow, and providing food for birds and hedgehogs etc!
One of the most fun parts of owning a new garden is exploring all the wildlife that lives in it, and encouraging new wildlife! Stick out some bird feeders and see what turns up0 -
The common furniture beetle that leaves damaging woodworm holes is tiny and rarely noticed. See the penny for scale in the 2nd image on this page. https://www.diy-pest-control.co.uk/blog/2012/to-beetle-or-not-to-beetle/But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.
