Loos and Basins!

Ok, bear with me, I have 2 questions.
1) I have a wonderful (not) 'eco' loo in my bathroom. It's c%£p! The flush doesn't do the job, so to speak, so we end up flushing several times. Of course this isn't exactly 'eco'! Is there any 'tinkering' I can do to the loo to make it flush more efficiently?
2) I'm also trying to update my downstairs cloakroom. The loo is approx 30 years old and needs replacing (as does the basin). How difficult is it to fit isolating valves to both? Also the waste for the loo is a vertical outlet which is approx 6" out from the rear wall. What type/size of loo do I need to buy? It seems to me that most modern loos seem to have the waste more like 3 - 4" from the rear wall?
Thanks in anticipation guys

No not at all this is not Eco at all its defaeting the main idea of eco, it could be due to a alot of things, either the Cistern is not filling to maximum before flushing or there's something wrong with your Syphon, one of my customer had same issue and it was the film on the base of her, you can go to mytoiletspares.co.uk for more DIY Videos0
