Probate and IHT

Hello all, I'm hoping someone can help me with my problem.

My mother died in August, and I'm having trouble completing the IHT forms. She died leaving a will, naming my father as sole executor and heir to her complete estate. This consists of £400,000 in joint assets including family home and various bank accounts and £200,000 in assets in her sole name (rental property and savings).

I realise this is over the IHT threshold, but as it is going to pass to her spouse will we need to pay IHT?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There is no IHT payable on bequests to a spouse.
