JSA query

Hi everyone
I made a claim for JSA (first time) on the 28th Sept and I had my initial JSA interview on the 3rd Oct. I then had my first meeting with my coach on the 9th who has booked me for another appointment with her on the 17th and she said that I would be signed on during this appointment.
I had received a letter stating that they couldnt pay me JSA (no reason given) so I phoned up to query this and was told there was a mix up about my NI contributions and to disregard that letter as a new one has been sent and I am entitled.
My question is that I had an interview today and I was offered the job - I am due to start on Friday which is the day I am due to sign on, so am I entitled to get JSA backdated from the date I made the claim until the day before I start work? I tried to call jobcentre today to explain and query this but i was on hold for 28 mins and they had system faults supposedly. I also emailed my coach but have had no response. I am going to be unable to sign on as I am going to be working 9-5:30, do they just release the money to me?
thanks in advance

you need to sign off JSA on the day before you start work.
JDS will be paid from the 3rd day after you signed on until the day you signed off ( JSA isnt payable for the first 3 days of a claim)

No the money will only be released if you go in and sign on. If you dont they will sanction your benefit. For failing to attend, Even though your starting a job, And the next time you go to sign on JSA for whatever reason that sanction might still be in place.0 -
what can I do? Unless they can change my appointment for tomorrow? as far as I am aware I havent actually signed on yet, it was supposed to be happening on friday. As its a first time claim its taken ages to get sorted out.0

You can go into the job centre tomorrow and complete the book or do it over the phone what ever is easier. And just tell them what you want the last day to be. Once your claim closes it generates a payment for you.0

hmm ok I think ill call up tomorrow and then see what they say and go down there if needs be. I didnt know you could just go without an appointments (ive never been on JSA before)
is it normal to have a week between initial job coach meeting and then signing on?

it's normally every 2 weeks you sign on. just standard practise that.
Yeah just call up benefit delivery centre and tell you start work on friday and you want to stop your claim and make your last day for JSA friday. A payment will be generated and released and would be in your account for a wednesday.0 -
If you are starting work on Friday then you need to tell jcp that your last day of claiming will be Thursday not fridayparagon909 wrote: »it's normally every 2 weeks you sign on. just standard practise that.
