Can we cancel contract if product is delayed?

We ordered a top of the range garage door from a local company, to be manufactured in Germany about 3 months ago. The door was supposed to have been delivered and fitted within 4-6 weeks. We paid a substantial deposit.
Approx. 6 weeks ago we were led to believe that the original order had not been received in Germany and that it would be expedited for delivery this week.
We now fear that it's still not ready. The local company are blaming the German manufacturers.
What rights do we have for the return of our deposit pending delivery? or to withdraw from the contract?
The door is supposedly being made to measure and we're not sure that there is an alternative provider.
Any guidance would be appreciated.
