quick ipod question

Hi all,
Knowing I drive a fair amount, a friend has lent me his old ipod whilst away on a working holiday.
I think I know the answer to this, but can I delete some of his songs off his ipod without hooking it up to my iTunes and wiping the whole thing?
I mentioned this to him and he was of course more than fine with it (as he could obviously just reinstate it once back in the country), I have my own music but not on the scale of his.
No big deal like some questions here, but he has a few very questionable tunes on there that would get me a few odd looks should they come up at the traffic lights.

You can only have an iPod synced to one iTunes library at a time. Depending on which model it is you may be able to remove some items but you wouldnt be able to add anything new from iTunes whilst retaining everything else.
There used to be third party applications you could get that bypassed this by allowing you to add, remove and download things outside of iTunes but having not tried to do it for a long time I dont know if the ones to add files still exist or not0 -

Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -
Its correct that you cannot auto sync an ipod with more than one itunes library however that shouldn't be a problem in your situation.
Launch iTunes and then connect the iPod. As far as I know it isn;t set to 'sync' by default and even if it is you will see a message that says you cannot sync with more than one.
With the ipod visible to your iTunes program you can drag and drop music onto the ipod and also selectively delete music from it directly.0
