Relocating to Milton Keynes - real estate agents, websites to help?

Dear All,

We are relocating to Milton Keynes from overseas and we are looking for a one bedroom flat to rent in a nice area with easy transport to the train station. I never lived in the UK, so I would need some advice how to go about it... Shall I try real estate agents or the there is an open market on the internet or something else?

(This works differently in each country and I have no idea which is the best way in the UK.)

If someone can recommend a good real estate agent I would appreciate that too...

I can't help with regards to Milton Keynes, but just FYI, in the UK, if you're buying a home, real estate agents are just called estate agents. If you're going to be renting, you'll need a letting agent, although they're often one and the same!

We've done a few BTLs on flats on the Crest Nicholson Oakgrove site, so from time to time they should come up for let.

I would imagine Rightmove would be the best place to look in the first instance.

Generally speaking most properties are listed (by the letting agent) on www.rightmove.co.uk

You should take a look at the properties available and then use the link/number to contace the agents directly. They may also have other listings that are not yet on the open market.


Also note that in the UK the estate/letting agents fees are paid for by the seller/landlord (in Europe the tenant or buyer usually pays a fixed % or 1-3months rent as a fee) so you do not need to worry about paying those. Usually there will be a fee for credit checks and so on which you will have to pay (highly inflated, of-course, prob around 100-200 pounds).

The local paper, the Citizen, has a large property section, and can be searched online I think:

Milton keynes itself, like anywhere, has 'good' areas and 'bad' areas. If you will have a car, there are also many nice village locations in the surrounding countryside.

You might choose to avoid
Fishermead, Conniborough, Eaglestone, Netherfield, Waterhall, Stantonbury,

nut others may disagree or add their own areas.....

My own experience is that it's worth checking both rightmove and zoopla, many properties will appear on both but there were certainly some that were only on one or the other.

You clearly don't know the area well. I find that people who don't live here tend to look down their nose at the area whilst those of us lucky enough to live here really appreciate it and now wouldn't move away.

OP - there are lots of I bed flats within easy walking distance to the station. Look for flats in the Vizion development or across the road behind the Jurys Inn hotel.

I used to live in Wolverton Mill (actually in the pub / restaurant). It was a nice area. My friend has a flat in the city centre and she enjoys living there.
