"Best" is subjective, and depends on the level of cover you require. But AutoAid is frequently recommended on this site ( and I have been with them for many years ). £39.90 per year covers you and spouse in any car, recovers you to a destination of your choice ( e.g. a garage near your home rather than the nearest one to you at the time, which is handy if you're miles away from home ).

The important thing to note, it is a "pay and reclaim" service. You pay the recovery firm at the roadside, then claim it back from AutoAid. If you always carry a credit card it's no problem at all. Pay by card, claim, the cheque arrives within ten days, gives you plenty of time to bank it before your credit card statement arrives.

The "pay and reclaim" bit puts a lot of people off, but I've never had any issues, and for the price nothing else comes close.

If you take your vehicle to continental Europe I'd suggest looking at QuoteLineDirect - £59 / year for full cover. Alternatively some packaged bank accounts (e.g. Nationwide FlexPlus) offer it, which might be good value if you also need the other products in the package.
