Claim for delayed flight from 2008?

I was talking about holiday flight delays with a friend and mentioned that I was delayed by the "Russian" flight that crashed at Heathrow in January 2008 and lost a day in Miami because of it.

We were going on a cruise and were supposed to have a day in Miami but we arrived late evening, went to our bed then got the shuttle bus to the cruise terminal.

My friend asked if we got any compensation.

We didn't. Not even a meal voucher, we just sat in Heathrow from eight in the morning until about 6 pm.

Is it too late to complain and get compensation, considering that we don't have any details except the entry stamp to the USA on our passport?

There is a whole section above which covers flight delays and issues that relate to applying for compensation.

In your case it sounds like "Extraordinary Circumstances" so no compensation will be payable.

Try to put it behind you - 6 years have past.

6 years is the time limit for claims, whether valid or not. If you travelled on or before 15 October 2008 you are out of time. If the flight was delayed due to the closure of the runway, no compensation would be payable anyway, must admit I do not recall any Russian aircraft crashing at Heathrow, if you mean the BA 777 that discovered the fuel had frozen when they tried to apply thrust before landing, that was January 2008 and you are therefore 10 months too late.

I would think that delays due to Heathrow closing due to a Boeing 777 crashing on the airfield would surely come under "extraordinary circumstances beyond the airlines control"?

I'd also probably, given a sense of perspective, been grateful that I'd only lost a day in Miami and not suffered the trauma of an aircraft accident.

That's academic though because you're too late anyway.

You lost a day - People lost their lives.

What a sad and selfish human being you really are.

To be fair to the OP, amazingly there were no fatalities on BA38.

That's the one, did it fly from Russia?

If I was really looking for compensation I would have called the airline not asked on here.
I am asking to shut up the so called know-it-all friend who keeps harping on about it every time we meet.

    .....

    No, BA38 is Beijing-London
