Received goods I did not order

Hello all.
I ordered a TV recently from a major UK retailer and this arrived last week.
However the free WIFI adaptor was not included so I rang them and they promised to look into this and ring me back.
They didn't so I rang them again and again they promised to look into it and ring me back.
Again nothing.
Yesterday I planned to ring them again when I got home from work only to find my neighbour had signed for a package from them on my behalf.
Great, I thought, finally a week later my order is now complete.
Wrong, they had sent me a Wireless Multi-media Speaker instead.
So again I rang them, they apologised for the delays in sending my WIFI adaptor and that it would be at least another week which I wasn't pleased about.
The guy I spoke to said they hadn't sent the speaker despite the fact I have rec'd, it was addressed to me and the package was covered in their company logo!!!
They guy promised again that someone would ring me about the WIFI adaptor and ended the call. So I thought great, a free speaker.
Since then they have rang me back, but about the speaker and have said now that they did send it and they want it back (still no update about my WIFI adaptor!!!!).
The guy I spoke to said they'd come back for it the next day between 8am and 5pm so I told him I couldn't do that as I'm in work, so then he said I had to take it back to the store!!! I told him the store is miles away, I don't have a car and as it their mistake I'm not going out of my way to return something I didn't even order.
This was the last conversation I had they said they'd look into this further and ring me back.
I haven't heard back yet but am very tempted to tell them they can have the speaker when I get my WIFI adaptor and am wondering if legally I even have to return the speaker at all?
It was sent to me at my home address, and signed for so does this now make it my property?
Can anyone help with this?
Thanks in advance.

That would seem the most obvious and pain-free way forward. You would have to be in to sign for the adaptor so you could just give the courier the speaker at the same time.

And no, it is not your property but it is not your responsibility to arrange for it to be sent back.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.
  • Thanks for the reply.
I'm not bothered about keeping the speaker as I don't really think I'd use it.
They've just really annoyed me as they don't seem to care less about my missing WIFI adaptor and didnt ring me back once but since they found out about this speaker (which I had to ring them to tell them about) I've had 3 calls from them in the space of a day and on one of them they actually put me on hold for close to 10 mins whilst they looked into it further!!!
They had already agreed to send the WIFI adaptor (whenever it becomes available) by Royal Mail (as its only a small package) so that if I miss delivery I can pick it up from the post office round the corner.
As well as all the time Ive wasted on this I don't know how they are going to collect it if I'm in work during the week and am not prepared to waste my weekend sitting around waiting for a courier when its not my fault, I've already told them this and that I'm not taking any time off work to fix this mess.
Ultimately it looks like I'll have to wait in at some point to allow them to pick up the speaker but don't see why I should have to waste any more of my time on this.
I was really hoping to be able to keep it just so that I could avoid all this and as some form of compensation for all the trouble.
Wont be ordering from them again anytime soon.
    Thanks for the reply.
  • Ah, yeah, compensayshun ;) what major UK retailer is it?

In which case, simply ask them to send you a Royal mail pre-paid label and you can drop off the speaker the local Post Office.
