Wrong date of birth on TSB bank/current account

Hi,

My partner has two TSB bank/current account plus, the first one was opened and an R85 sent off - processed fine. A second was opened and R85 sent off - not heard anything.

It now transpires that for the second TSB current account plus, she entered her date of birth incorrectly, the day and year are correct but the month is different.

The 'local' branch have now written to her stating the R85 form date of birth does not match that supplied when the account was opened. They want her to go into branch with proof of her correct date of birth.

A trip to the branch would be a 2-3 hour round trip on public transport as it is a couple of towns away, my question is can she write back to them and simply ask for this to be corrected as her first account has the right date of birth and it's simply a typo on the month?

Please advise, thanks in advance.

Fill in another R85 with wrong date of birth, numpties probably won't do anything! :rotfl:

Whether the HMRC will pick up on it who knows with them these days, they are a law to their own...

How is the bank to know whether the DOB on the first or the second account is the correct one? They will now want to see proof of ID. If your partner is unable to visit a branch (any branch) for that purpose, it might be possible that they will accept a certified copy of a photo ID. The Post Office provide a certification service.

I wouldn't leave this hanging about for too long as both accounts might get locked, or there might be problems when withdrawing the money.

No. She'll need to provide evidence and someone will need to see that evidence.

  • Banks do not need R85 forms anymore - they can take your oral instruction to apply gross interest.
The date of birth is a different matter - if the bank records are incorrect (not what was on the R85)then they will need to have sight of your birth certificate or passport to amend the records.

Any branch of TSB would do - is the closest 90 mins away?

You might get away with asking another part of LBG (Lloyds, Halifax or BOS) photocopy your ID and certify the copy for you.
