Help! Applied for a mortgage now partner has lost his job!

Options
Hi there,

I wonder if anyone can help. We are in the process of selling our home and have bought a new one for 160K. We have 43K deposit and are porting or mortgage (northern rock ) for the rest. I earn 27k and my partner 22k so it wasn't a problem but my partner has now lost his job.

We live in scotland (where the law is slightly differnet and we are now legally bound to buy our new house) so can't very easily get out of buying the house (and anyway, really want it and I'm sure my partner will find work asap).

So my dilema is do I tell Northern rock he has lost his job and risk them not giving us enough mortgage based on my salary alone or do I hope they don't phone his employer and find out he doesn't work there any more ?

Northern Rock keep phoning me to discuss the application and I don't really want to lie and say that he is working there.

Please help!
