Washer - dryer

Now I hate the tumble dryer being on, to me it's drone, signals money being blown away.
But sometimes there is no other option, with very little space and winter on it's way there are no other options.
So I though maybe it's time to start saving for a new energy efficient one, or even better a washer-dryer to get the tumble dryer out of the spare bedroom and in the utility room.
But...
Energy efficiency is tricky, an 'A' appliance is often only 'A' for the wash cycle, really efficient units are £700+ and out of budget.
Does anyone know of half decent affordable model?
Or do you use those electric dryers that used to be shown on those JML adverts months ago?

From personal experience, if you have the space for a separate dryer (or even if you don't!) I would not even bother with a washer-dryer. It will wash reasonably well, but it takes forever to dry anything... And all washer-dryers are extremely inefficient on the drying cycle due to the fact they are not optimised for drying.
I had a washer-dryer in my old flat (no room for separates). It was brand new and broke down after 3 years. I had an engineer round to fix it, who deemed it uneconomical to fix. He advised me to replace it with just a washing machine due to general unreliability and running costs of washer-dryers. I did this. Now I have moved to a house I bought a separate tumble dryer to go with it and the situation is much improved!
Don't do it...Cleared my credit card debt of £7123.58 in a year using YNAB! Debt free date 04/12/2015.

And, in the interest of balanced opinions, we've had our hotpoint WD for 7 years and I've replaced the heating element and cleaned the fan twice. Cost me about 50 quid over that period.
We have no room for a separate TD, so this suits us ;-)

That is a real shame, the dryer really is in the way but we cannot do without it (especially at this time of year).
I've seen those electric / air dryers advertised, and I seem to remember a mixed reaction on here about them.
Has anyone actually got one and records what it costs?0
