Morning all...
happy halloween...loved looking at the pumpkin pics overnight, and the wonderful foodie ones....
We have had our first set of trick or treaters, whats that all about at 8.30am in the morning!
Have got the halloween lanterns from the loft and am just debating about putting them outside or keeping all the treats to ourselves....if it continued through the day with a steady stream of children there wont be much left by lunchtime....
The boys are both still in bed but no doubt will support my decision to kepp the stash of treats for ourselves!!!!frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -
Turnips v Swedes
As a child living in Alnmouth, just north ofNewcastle we used to rob the farmers field of turnips to make lanterns. We'd pull them up then go sit on Bracken (Beacon) Hill and hollow them out, eating some of the tasty orange centre.
So, Turnips are Purple skinned with Orange insides. Swedes are white tastless things.
Now I must go get my hair done lolThere's no place like home

If you're an eBayer, check your emails. DH has just been enrolled into the Global Shipping Programme. I've just opted him out as it's not for him. No email for me yet.:happylove Nanny to 2 Cherubs :happylove0

Nope, swedes are the orange ones with purple skins and turnips are the white little things! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
How did we end up with opposing names for two different things across the borders? It has even caused problems for us, a Scots friend of mine asked me to get her a swede so I came back with what I thought was a swede, she had wanted a turnip so I had to go back out and get her that! Not a problem, I always have swede in the freezer to go in stews or soups anyway! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
