    Afternoon :)

Want to say big thanks to the Udi OP - wasn't sure who it was so have had a look back and think it was Brusine here?

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=66631367&postcount=3997

I didn't take much notice for a while as I wasn't sure what the toasties were (:o), but have had a couple of c&c's now and have had some wonderful subs - fruit and oat cookies last week and today some Wildflower Honey Granola which looks really good :j:T

Still don't know what a Udi toastie is as have yet to receive one, but I am really enjoying them being out of stock, liking the subs put in their place and the loving resulting APGs.

    Thanks OP :beer::T

I've just had a moan to COS about the update to their app. It's awful! You can't see any more which supermarkets are included without clicking on every single item. Im afraid their 'improvements' aren't up to much.

Have also just updated the As app to the new 'ipad friendly' version. On the whole it is better than the previous one for using on iPad but sadly they haven't re-instated the APG scanner. It still takes you to the web page. Boo! I was hopeful......

    Hello all :)

I just got told a little loop-hole today for anyone who is flying Easyjet anytime soon- if you don't fancy shelling out a bucket load for luggage, try and get a premium leg-room seat. Automatically means you're entitled to a larger cabin bag- which is the only free luggage you can take.

I got quoted £74 for me and my mate to take two normal sized suitcases to Iceland. Laughed a lot. The poor Indian guy on the phone didn't know what to say. The funny thing is they only show you additional baggage prices for one way. So I said to him 'so it would be cheaper for me if I took my luggage to Iceland and just left it there like a drug smuggler' :rotfl:

Bet I'm on some kind of list now but it was just so ridiculous. Why would you only show the one way price? Who takes their luggage on holiday with them and just leaves it?

    :hello:
So much again - well, any hope I had of just popping on to update M list to what the prices are now and then going again now dashed:rotfl:. M now have "More" points to throw into the mix. Just making everything complicated! Normally I might like it if it was made more complicated, but sometimes it is too much:(. In the olden days, you used just to pay the price on the shelf - all you'd have to do was make sure you were at the cheapest place (that itself not as easy to achieve as might be thought).

Now, to work out which item is best by weight/volume, you need to consider not just the prices per unit on the items as seen in front of you in the store you are in, but also the prices per unit on those and other weights/volumes at competitors to whom you might be price-matching/beating - and you now have to factor in any "More" points and whether they work out as making the item with the "More" points better, either on straight M price or vs the cheaper price of a competitor, or whether another version of the product of a different size, even without "More" points works out better perhaps when compared against a competitor. M "Match and More Complicated":p.

Someone needs to go in and get details of every item with a "More" points promotion, the exact details of the item, M price and the number of points and valid until date. I'm unable to look at every one; instead I picked a few that looked as if they might be cheaper elsewhere (I was thinking Mvs A) or else, maybe, looked good on M prices - on a non-comp.shop and not spending £15.

So - we're now looking for: items that are very good value in M, to buy elsewhere. And items with "More" points that are high priced in M and cheaper elsewhere in order to buy in M.

    :rotfl:

In fact it doesn't matter so much what the M price is. You're considering the number of points and whether the deduction of the value in pence of a tenth of the number of the points, either off M's straight price or of the price of a cheapest comparable competitor makes that item good value or poor. Plus whether you get multiples of £5 etc.

For example, something that is already on the 'buy in M' list, as presumed good value in M, and which has not increased in price in M, which now has "More" points offer on it, it's a no-brainer really that that is an item to be buying, if you would need/use it, now and getting the points. The 850g Wood Shavings, for example, are still £1 and now have a "More" promotion. They were always on the buy in M list so that, now, with the points, it would be better - assuming that M is good value on this - and bearing in mind that I have no clue as to the value or worth of anything that falls into what I think to be non-grocery as I've no idea whether any of these items are good value or not. That is not my specialism and I don't know whether Wood Shavings would be better from B&Q or somewhere like that as I can't be everywhere and I've no clue outside of the supermarkets that are on msm. And also that I never buy at the right time as, no sooner do I think something has gone to - or is already at - its lowest price, doubtless it'll go on RTC later at cheaper than the current price even with the points.

Whereas, for example, something that is now much higher priced in M than it was only a short time ago, would not make sense to buy, with a "More" points offer, if the points, almost inevitably?, do not amount to anything like the price increase amount, unless the item is comparable to cheaper elsewhere and bought correctly. There is only one reason why the "More" points offers are on: they are there to try to get you to buy the items. They are just another aspect in the store's promotion and positioning of items in the stores in order to try to persuade you to pick them up and buy them.

I note the expensive (£3.19:eek:) Tango and 7Up cans packs (6 pack) have a "More" points offer. Those might be good items, if they are still available in T at £1.59 and obviously on an Mvs T comp shop, but would need to check T's pricing again as price changeover!

Other items need checking. Maybe Med. Veg packs are now good on Mvs A filler item (an item there on the shop getting the £15 spend but non-comparable vs A and thus not itself contributing anything to the "Match" points), assuming that A does not stock an equivalent anymore. 4 pack Ripen at Home Avocados, but need to check the points value, check the value vs previous M mbuy pricing to see if it is worth it and check very carefully indeed that nothing at A is comparable (bearing in mind the much higher weight/volume range in M's scheme) - that's assuming you are doing Mvs A - as I think this can be an anomaly on the APG scheme that means there isn't a comparable in A that compares for APG purposes and therefore it becomes Tvs M, but that there may be a comparable item to the M product from M for the purposes of Match & More and therefore might return A much higher priced!

The 2L Pepsi bottles look like obvious Mvs A items (M £1.98 vs A £1.00) but need to check the exact variety is available on a.com (there may be an issue with Max Cherry Cola as a.com says Max "Wild" Cherry Cola - if the word "Wild" isn't present at M in the Match & More system then, depending on the words it uses to link up and how it works, it may be not picked up as a comparable item to A). 100 "More" points. Gosh, that's only 10p:(. Thought it was more than that - no it's not. So, 90p:eek:_pale_ for Pepsi, may as well wait till £1 elsewhere and buy in A (in fact on bogo'f' in Waities). Would be way way better if on A mbuy and if glitch.

Others needing to check include 6 pack hot cross buns and Birds Eye Garden Peas 1.3Kg (£3.25:eek::eek: in M and 1000 points). The 200g fresh own brand Kippers, which have seen a price increase from 99p to £1.29:eek: but, sure enough, there is now a "More" points offer on them. A 98p on its own brand, BUT- wondering whether they are comparable at all from M as the A ones are Smoked Scottish. The M ones, however, are "North East Atlantic" - doesn't say anywhere that that is necessary "Scottish"? And, of course, you'd also need to work out if there were any comparable kippers between 160g and 240g inclusive available on cheaper price per kg. in Lidl, to work out if Mvs Lidl or Mvs A was better.

I'm not doing every "More" points item, and can't do that, just a few I felt might be worth looking into - Green Mark Vodka 1L 4000points (=£4) £18.99 in M - is that way cheaper elsewhere?!? And need to work out whether the £10 maximum Match points is infringed by collection of those 4000 points on "More" - just trying to get to grips with this scheme, not sure of exact T&Cs at the moment.
