I work in housing , long gone are the day where you get a council house just cause you are pregnant if it ever existed at all. an no priority council housing lists you get extra points which is next to none, same as people with disabilities, people who need to move due to health bla bla..
Having a baby being young or and unemployed dosent make you jump any list.
Must be in different areas because my daughters friend was kicked out at 17 (Parent's said because when the baby is born that they didn't have room for it etc)
Once the child was born and then she was put into emergency accommodation for 5 months and then put into a 2 bed flat.
They did say that if she wanted a place faster that they would pay a bond for the deposit and then she could go private which would cost £695 a month but the council place was £400 so she waited.
We did a similar thing in 1992 and got a 3 bed house and bought it 4 years later for £80k and paid £55k for it. Sold it for £115k 3 years later and bought a bigger place. The GOV should do a massive house build and do this again because it helps a lot of people get onto the ladder.
I don't understand why the GOV pay this housing benefit to private landlords and if I was in charge I think buying some of the housing stock to then let to people that claim housing would save the GOV in the long term. Or just build loads of houses and flats.
Some people might disagree with people being helped into a flat/house I don't. If you are entitled to it and its being offered then do it.0 -
