'Tyreleader.co.uk' are a German outfit with warehouse/s in England and I've rarely found any cheaper but they like many other mytyres lovetyres etc they are buy online and get them fitted on your own or book fitting at an outfit near you on their list of fitting centres0

thanks all, so far
"you could stick a 205/55 on which would give an 1.5% dia increase which is fine as each rim can take 3 and sometimes 4 tyre widths....but check your rim width it'll say something like 6.5J or 7j or 7.5J"
how do I find out the rim size ? (no markings)
Which of the sizing is the 'depth/height/thickness' of the tyre. In 215/50, it is the 50, yes ? Why then would 225/45/17 be better (previos post). Surely 45 is less than 50 and therefore MORE low prifile/thinner
(Getting confused now)0 -

If you fit 205/55/17 they are not listed as summer tyres see the OM and therefore a potential insurance issue.
The 17" OEM rims were 7J.
I did not say better I said a wider choice therefore cheaper but lower profile.
Again which model?0 -
I doubt if many folks would consider 50 to be 'low' profile these days.
Many family cars are now running 40 or 35 profile.
The optional tyre sizes should be listed on the tyre pressure label on the drivers door-post or somewhere thereabouts.
If you fit some size that is not listed - not only will the gearing and the handling be quite different - then your insurance company may well not be too chuffed in the event of a claim - even if it was not tyre related in any way.
The concept of differing profiles is quite simple really - the car manufacturer designs the car and it's suspension around a particular size - if you want to go lower (less sidewall so bumpier) you have to have a wider tyre - and similarly if you want to go higher (more sidewall so less bumpy) you need to have a narrower tyre.0 -

no 205/55 R17 summer tyres available...are you serious? I've just checked two sites with tonnes of them0 -

Would Inner Zone be meaning they were only listed on the door post as a Winter tyre fitment - not a 'normal' or Summer tyre.0 -
yeah 50 is the profile or tyre thickness as some sites say...215 section width...50= profile or tyre thickness as some sites try to simplify it for you R17= radial 17" wheel and it as
so total dia (mm) = (17x25.4) + 2(0.5x215)=432 + 215
tyre thickness is just the profile ie 50 times the width(215) ..so 0.5x215 ..so 107mm of tyre between the rim and the road0 -

well if the door jamb reads a 205/50R17tyre=a winter tyre ....then thats incorrect...but if the OP wants a taller profile then he can fit a 205/55R17 or 225/50R17 both give a 10mm increase in overall dia which is +1.5%....and no issues as it it be a 7J which can take both
I only read his post not his mind0 -
Its going to make neglible difference. Buy a car with better suspension.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Are you serious!
I never said that, I said that there are two sizes for 17" summer tyres listed in the OM and 205/55/17 is not one of them.
As the OP still has not told us the model, I suspect that either he is over-sensitive, the suspension is worn out or the car has been lowered.0
