Switched from M&S Energy and MSE gave me £30 Cash back

Began my switch 40 days before contract end using Energy Club links. Cash back was paid into my account today. Would have stayed with M&S (SSE) but had a number of billing complaints in the year which were upheld and they paid out credits. The difference between M&S Fixed v2 and First:Utility was very little. M&S were only giving £20 vouchers for new accounts. So the MSE cash back made the difference.

SSE phone help is free and very good and staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. They don't tell you what position in the queue you are whereas F:U do. Not very happy with F:U's email and phone support plus their T&C's say they won't deal with you if your account is expected to be less than £600 pa. Mine is more so no problem.

But they ticked my boxes. They take a months D/D up front as a prepayment. When I did this with SSE as a debit card payment it broke their billing system. F:U want a meter reading at the start of every month. When I did this with SSE it caused all sorts of billing problems.

I know I'm going to have difficulty getting in touch with F:U when I need a credit repaying as last time I rang them (its not free) I was 32 in the queue. Plus my emails have been ignored. Whats very annoying is that for a duel fuel switch they send out emails referring to either gas or electric leaving you feeling that the switch only applied to one fuel.

I'll give F:U the benefit of the doubt and come back here next year to tell you how things went.
