Firstly - move them out of the way! Hang things up where he can't reach if he's always targeting the same things.
Some other thoughts:
Does he usually use a litter tray? Is it kept clean? Have you changed litter type recently? Is he sharing it?
Any other changes - new people/animals in the house, new cats in the garden, building work?
Has he had a check-up lately?
Maybe try Feliway or something along those lines to calm him.
Good luck! Our cat went through a phase in the summer of peeing in my shoes... not good! Fingers crossed we're past the worst now, he hasn't done it for months (I've probably jinxed that now!)0 -
We have had Barney for over a year now - and he would still poo in the bath if he thought he could get away with it. A year on, and we have learned to live with a 'boobytrapped' bath.0

Don't you mean poobytrapped?
Sorry, bit lame.
OP I hope you sort this. It could be a dirty litter tray. It needs cleaning thoroughly at least once a week.
We actually buy a new one 3 times a year.You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
I agree with moving them out of the way so he doesn't do it anymore in them, will stop any nasty surprises when she goes to put them on

I would honestly suggest thinking if anything has changed in the household/garden area that may be stressing him out. They don't react well to change at times and react in ways such as this.
One of my old cats, insisted on having two trays (one for weeing, one for pooing!) and it was the only way to stop little accidents. A lot of people do recommend that you have 1 litter tray per cat + one spare...but I understand how sometimes this cannot be practical. Therefore I say you need to was the tray out properly 1-2 times a week , and the floor around it (for weeks a tom cat was spraying around my cats tray and we didn't realise it was him until i spotted him...and the scent stays around for ages!) and remember to remove any waste asap.
Finally, if he has any other symptoms that are not quite right then I suggest a check up at the vets. He may have a simple problem to do with digestion or stress and this is his way of dealing with it.

vet trip to start with
how old is the cat/how long you had him/her for/when did this behavior start
change the litter - get few litter trays with different type(clumping, normal, wood pellets etc) of litter, put them in different places in the house, quiet out of the way places, see which one he/she uses and
few cats I know about were doing what your does and this was a simple solution
and of course put things away0 -
Agree with suggestions by previous posters.
You mentioned he's doing this in your daughter's shoes/bag. Are these by the front door by any chance?
One of our cats (Maisie) went through a period of fouling by the front door. It happened pretty much every day for around a month & we were going crazy trying to work out why it was happening.
We eventually realised that the microchip cat flap hadn't been set correctly, so was letting intruders in. Apparently, soiling areas of entrance/exit to the house is a common territory marking behaviour. Even though the cat was coming in at the back of the house, Maisie was marking the front door as she associated this high traffic area as an insecure part of the house. Once the cat flap was set right, she stopped."Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510
