Removing name from bank account

My friend has tried to remove her name from a joint account she had with her ex husband at the Halifax, she has been told they will both have to come in together to sign a form, the account is in credit and the Halifax knows they are divorced as she has a mortgage with them in her maiden name , does anybody know if this is correct.Many thanks

What is the name of the current account? If it is a Reward account, the terms and conditions say:

• If you open a joint account with another person, either of you can withdraw all or part of the balance, write cheques, apply for an overdraft or close the account without the other person’s permission.

So she could close the account but the link above doesnt give her the right to remove her name on her own.

May be semantics but closing an account is different from removing your name from one.
