Boiler warranty invalid?

Afternoon all.
I had a Baxi Platinum installed 4 years ago, because it came with a 5 year warranty. All good. The very nice (Gas Safe registered) gentleman has serviced it annually since then, and last week it started playing up. Said friendly gas man came over and had a look, and as well as commenting that it's as clean and new looking inside as when it came out of the box, it looks like the main board is on the fritz and I should call Baxi and get them to come and fix it under warranty, cos he reckons the required bits will be quite $pendy.
So this morning, I call Baxi/Heat team, and they say, "oh, it's only got a 2 year warranty that one mate, cos we never received the warranty card". I was more than a little surprised, as they got my name from my address, so there was definitely some registration somewhere on their system. Pressing them, apparently they never got the card with the serial number, so I now have no warranty.
Now, at risk of sounding like a bit of a to$$er, but I'm certain that card got posted. I even recall (I think) walking up the hill to the postbox at the top of my road and posting it. I have (diagnosed) OCD, so I am pretty sure I posted it - all the other bits of paper relating to the boiler are in a little plastic sleeve in the place I keep these things, including the notice of condemnation for my old boiler and everything in between up to it's last service a couple of months back, and tbh if I hadn't posted it I'm pretty sure it'd still be in there, laughing at me.
Is the onus really on me to somehow prove I posted it? It was a freepost jobby, it never occurred to me that I'd need to ring up and check they'd received it or send it signed for. How am I to know that it never got there, or wasn't correctly applied to their system if it did, prior to calling them today and being told so?
Has anyone had a similar experience, and is there any hope for me? Or am I just looking at paying for whatever it needs and posting the warranty card recorded next time I have a new boiler?
