special is a joke if you have an account...its cheaper to pay over the counter lol

Yeah, I'd worked that one out - my husband was not best pleased that we'd been told we'd "save" £1.15 per Special Delivery parcel (ours are usually just over the 100g band and we send about 30 annually) but that it would cost more than over the counter :(

What surcharge? Something else they've forgotten to mention?

    3% surcharge

Aha! Something else they definitely failed to mention.

So, the 58 pence Royal Mail quoted me for RM48 LL will actually cost:

    58p basic cost +
    12p VAT +
    2p fuel surcharge

= 72p total. And the current price over the counter is 73p. A whole penny off!:rotfl:

I think that for now, we will be sticking (excuse the unintentional pun) to our current system of using stamps, especially as we are still using the ones we got before the price increase last March (69 pence) :)

If my local Costco ever get the 2nd class LL stamps back in then I would save money by not having the business account- as I think their 2nd class LL stamps are about 71p each.

I've got another message today from RM asking me to call them about setting up a business account

The biggest bonus with OBA and PPI is that you can 'average' your items. That is where the saving comes in. Looking at each individual price isn't necessarily the way to compare it.

99% of our items are LL under 100g (second class). The other 1% are SD. Averaging doesn't really come into it, unfortunately :(

I'm not sure averaging would help me either. I have been careful with my stock, so currently 90% of it fits as a large letter and the rest are parcels but I am using MyHermes for the chunky stuff .

I suppose I could buy different stock, but I've got lazy, my smaller items are easy to pack and take very little time, if I increase the antiques and collectible side it starts to take time again as it all needs packing, bubble wrapping , boxing etc. I have a lot of vintage stuff in storage , box loads, but limit myself to listing just enough to be able to wrap without it taking all day.

I've also got a high percentage of overseas sales.

My RM manager though is being quite persistent...I may have to have a chat with him anyway.
