Lloyds TSB - Charged for Gambling Transaction

I have been using Lloyds TSB Credit Card since last year..

Recently, I used it to deposit £10 on Totesport Gambling Site. Today, I noticed that they have charged 'Cash Advance Handling' charge for that transaction. When I asked them on phone, they said, they have recently introduced that they will be treating transactions on Gambling Sites as Cash transactions and charging daily interest on the same.

I was shocked !! I did the similar transaction using my other credit card 'Morgan Stanley' but they have not charged me.

Can I reclaim these charges from Lloyds TSB??

No you can't, there is another bank that charges for these but I can't remember off hand which.

How recently was this, becuase AFAIK all credit cards changed their T&C's to treat any gambling related transactions as cash advances. I don't know of any that don't.

Unfortunately their original thread was 2007 so because someone reignited the post with something EVEN I cannot understand(and that is saying something) then we have the post higher up the boards.

I thought I was clear-ish enough in the light of the previous posts on a similar theme
I'll have another go ..
I used my lloyds tsb credit card to pay the £6 fee to enter a fantasy football team with the Daily Telegraph.
On top of the £6 Lloyds charged me £2-50, called a "cash advance handling fee" plus interest.
I thought it was cheeky - have Lloyds incurred some sort of cost relating to my £6 transaction - then what does "handling fee" mean ?

the post might have originally been 2007 and clearly this has been happening for a while yet no one I know had heard of it so its still not common knowledge so worth a post in my opinion

In that case, my apologies to you as it was so unclear and seemed out of place.
You cannot claim the £2.50 cash advance handling fee back.

just thought it was cheeky and worth flagging up

in the card T and C they say they define a "cash withdrawal" is a number of things one of which is actually a "cash withdrawal" but also a string of things that don't involve withdrawing cash including gambling, maybe Lloyds is run by Quakers now ( no offence to quakers !)

seems to me "cash withdrawal" is a bit of a misnomer here - as I said cheeky !

I hope this isn't a very stupid question but does the bank "gambling fine" on credit cards referred to previously also apply to debit cards for example my LloydsTSB visa debit card ?
Would I be "safe" using that to pay for a fantasy football team ??

its that time of year (start of footy season) so its worth posting this I tink to remind people that they will usually pay an extra fee if they pay for a FF team using a credit card.

No it only applies to Credit Cards and possibly prepaid cards, but not your current account card, unless it is a foreign casino etc.
