Ebay Return what to expect.

Hello I posted about 30 of a particular product on BIN and open to offers.
I was expecting to sell all as 1s and subsequently have.
My 1st buyer I expect thought he was just going to sell them on and I was slightly suspicious of his offer for 10 unit. However i accepted.
Subsequently he emailed the standard
Here's what they said:
Reason:It's defective or doesn't work
Comments:The items do not work and are not as descibed all faulty
Anyway I am quite happy to get them all back and sell as the rest are going like hotcakes without complaint.
So I instantly reply telling him I will be happy to refund on safe receipt.
I then do the return via ebays own system on 4th October which i believe must send the buyer a label and info on how to use ebays own courier which i have paid for.
The ebay status then updates to
We've asked the buyer to post the item back by 24 Oct. You should wait until you get the item back before you refund the buyer.
Now my question is. He does not seem to have done anything further.
What happens on 24th October if nothing has been updated. Very hard to find any info on ebay ?
Im assuming the return is closed down and I get my postage money back ?
Any comments gratefully accepted.

Have you already actually seen the money leave your account for return postage? I was under the impression that you would only be billed once the barcode on the returns label has been scanned, i.e. once the item has been posted back to you.
So if they buyer changes his mind and does not post then the case will time out and you will not be billed for return postage.0 -
Okay thanks for that you are probably 100% correct.
Not bothered about that more about the "automatic" status of the return.
To be honest I may be a rare case where I would actually prefer to get them all back.
Probably pulled the trigger to sell a bit early.0
