What on earth has caused this one ??

Switched on my laptop 2 days ago, came onto this forum and suddenly found a lot of footnotes on threads had been converted into text like this...

Any ideas what has caused it? And more importantly, how do I get things back to normal? Thanks.

There was a persistent spammer the other day. The MSE forum team played around with the profanity filter to hide the posts as they were all the same and coming in thick and fast. There was some collateral damage.

Should be OK by now.

Thanks for this info but obviously not yet sorted for me because it's still showing up like this this morning. Why don't these troublemakers get a life and contribute something useful to society?

The posts and signatures will eventually be refreshed or rebuilt from the database or cache, so the remaining messed up ones come back in the end.

If not you should be able to force an update on your own signature or posts by making a minor edit.
