High bill received mid-switch?

I applied to move to sainsbury Energy 4 weeks ago, it says it takes 2 months, no issue there. At the time of switch I gave my meter reading.
The meter reading man came out and we now have a new bill from EDF today. I am paying as I get the bill as EDF kept on putting the DD up by disproportionate amounts.
What happens now, will sainsbury (BG) ask for a new reading or do they switch on the reading I gave them when I signed up? It'll be a nightmare getting the money off EDF if I overpay so i'd rather them at the time of switch but I don't want to get cut off or blacklisted. It already looks like they have way over estimated the gas use so I have to submit a new reading anyway. (usually it's £100 a month G&E but they want £500 for 3 months bill - will they be aware I am switching?)
Thanks for any advice.

Make sure you take frequent meter readings .
Usually it takes 4 to 6 weeks for the switch-over .
Once your new company initiates the switch EDF will be informed .
Over estimated is easy to disproof if you take frequent meter readings .Are most of your bills estimates ??0 -
The 'gaining' supplier is responsible for the switching process. They provide meter readings to the 'losing' supplier. This may go through the Metering Authority for adjustment; for example, if the switch is delayed past the date when the meters were read. The losing supplier either accepts the readings that it has been given or it raises a dispute. The latter can prolong the switching process.
The key thing for you to check is that the opening readings with your new supplier are the same as the closing reads with your old supplier. The price plus or minus to you will be in pence if they are the same. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Hi, no, all of my bills were actual so, averaged out it was £125 a month but each month they would write and raise the DD to £200. I would get them to put it back down again (and would give them my annual figures) next month they would write again putting it up to £200 a month again. I was just sick and tired of it so stopped the DD.
All of our readings were actual. They just wanted us to run 100's of pounds in credit am I refused. Now we are switching but I want to make sure it is right. I've not been home to check the reading for the gas, I will tonight but want to be sure what procedure is.0 -
So, quickly to ask, Sainsbury Energy will have to give readings to EDF. SE have not contacted me at all, should I wait for this? How long do I have before it becomes.0

Sainburys will contact you a week or so before the switch takes place and ask for your opening meter reading which will be giveen to EDF as your closing reading.
You will pay EDF up until the date of the switch not from the date you started the process.
All times are approximate and can vary from around 3 weeks up to 10 in some cases..
Quite often the gas and electric will switch on different dates .
The only thing that might delay or stop a switch is if you owe more than £200.
I assume you have had confirmation from Sainsburys that they have received your application.0 -
Last time I switched, I received a letter from the gaining supplier, about a week before the switch, stating the date it would occur and asking me to submit the readings to them, within the next few days. The suppliers then worked it out between themselves.0

This is all great, thank you. I will pay the bill then, I am going out to check it this morning and will put in the correct reading if it is wrong so I get the new bill.
I did get a confirmation email to say I had started the switch - I just went back and checked and yes, I have definitely applied. It was 3 weeks ago, not 4.
Thanks for your help everyone, very much appreciated.0
