I've had gastroenteritis it's very unpleasant, not just a case of the trots as the op seems to say0

If you still had the packaging with some food traces in it, then you could have spoken to Environmental health about getting it tested - if you gave it back to M&S you have lost that opportunity.
M&S may or may not get their own tests done.0 -

As per the NHS page above, the onset of food poisoning is usually 1-3 days but it can be quicker.
Whilst it could have been the M&S meal in the evening if you were sick by the following morning then the probability is that it was something earlier in the day or even something in the proceeding day(s)
Ultimately you can warn/ complain to each of the places you ate food from over the last few days but as the source hasnt been proven just expect a token voucher from a couple of them0 -
OP, to answer the question you posed in the thread title, you really should read MSE's How to Complain article.0

You could get the remanants of the food tested by environmental health. You could get your poo tested by your GP.
More than likely you both just touched a dirty surface, diarrhoea isn't always caused by food.0 -
Food bought and eaten on Sunday, ill on Monday with Gastroenteritis and you have still been able to return the empty carton to M&S? It's still only Tuesday lunchtime!
Last time I had a dose of gastro I was floored for a week with symptoms remaining for almost a month so the fact that you've been well enough to return to M&S would suggest you haven't had gastro or food poisoning, more likely a mild 24 hour bug of which there are many varieties at this time of year.0 -
Even now (Tuesday) I still have diarrhea and have to keep rushing to the nearest loo every five minutes.
How did you manage to return to M&S and have a conversation with someone?0 -

Exactly, when I had gastroenteritis I dare not leave the house for around a week, as you get very little warning.....!0 -

Yep.
Same as people who say they've had the flu and are back at work within a couple of days.
Anybody who's had proper flu knows how bad it can be.0 -
