23.7.07 what small dfw thing will you be doing/have you done today?

Hello lovely DFWers - old timers and newbies. I hope not too many of you are suffering with flood water 28_2_3v.gif and hugs to those of you that need them today.

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free.

Examples could be charging your phone up at work instead of at home to save your electricity, hanging the washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.

Today I will do the following:

- check online banking and update spreadsheet
- make sure as many appliances as poss are switched off at the wall
- use only the storecupboard/freezer for meals today
- do clicks and surveys
- not increase my debt in any way
- be positive
- not use the car for any unnecessary journey

I hope you all have a good day xx

    Mortgage-free Glee!
    Morning everyone,

Hope its not too wet wherever you are today.

I have got to drive from Sussex to Plymouth today, apparently though the petrol stations are running out!

    - Sent OH off with a leftover chicken salad.
    - Made some chicken broth from stock from yesterday's roast and leftover chicken - that's my lunch and no doubt OH's lunch tomorrow!
    - Managed to renew OH's life assurance - he was paying £39.99 per month with HSBC  . Managed to get it for £7.95 per month! I am shocked that HSBC could get away with that one! Was really thinking about reporting them to the FO.
    - OH and I repainted the windows and front door yesterday. We were going to pay someone to do it - saved us £500!
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

    morning all:)

have to go to the po today to send off some ebay sales so i have added them to my olympic challenge total:) postage all paid for so no spends there.

have transferred a tiny amount of money that was in my account to my savings account! every little helps!

have finished my online shopping list so will be placing tescos order today... came to 48.15 without offers coming off, so i have kept within this weeks budget of £60 so far:D i keep £10 in cash out of the £60 for fresh fruit/milk and bread for the week, so i think by the time next sunday comes i will still be under budget:D

am planning for a personal NSD which means i wont be spending any of my £10 from the moozie challenge:)

i have the HP book to re-read this week and two films to watch from lovefilm so plenty to do recreation wise.

    have a good day:)

Can't get to work today because of the flooding (I work in Gloucester). How dreadful! So a day at home with ds, hooray! Although it's still raining steadily and we are pretty much stuck inside.
Might go to the library though, and walk rather than taking the car- only a little saving but it's the petrol and 60p parking saved so contributing to the big picture.
Plus it's payday tommorrow and I still have cash in the bank, Unheard of. So will pay some from cc this evening, hopfully the same amount as is there at the moment as aiming for another NSD.
    Happy DFWing!

    Hi hypno, hi all.

Okay, I'm doing this as an alternative to the vacuuming, and then to washing my hair (which both have to be done before 9am, when my first client arrives, its now 8.15, oops. So today, I wll:
    - do the above, which means I won't be ashamed to open the door to a paying client, lol!
    - have successfully done the first part of my financial practice today.
    - rest of the day, hmmm. Well, leftovers for lunch, including tailend of raw stuff like cucumber and celery.
    - ring two builders for quotes.
    - do some surveys, I've fallen back again.
    - my experiment with cashback on greasy palm has worked, so I'll do some more of that.
    - have to allow some time for gardening/sweeping up outside.
    - prepare and send off an enquiry answer. Not hopeful of that one, however.

I want there to be more, but I'd better post this before 9am!

    - looked at Martin's Money Tips email, decided to open an Egg account so I could get the £10 Money Manager thing.
    - have remembered I have to pay my tax this week, groan!!!

  • Morning everyone,

Well the good news is that it is SUNNY in Plymouth at the moment, after a slightly drizzly start!

I am going to work at home today, thus removing temptation to spend.

I have cancelled my overdraft facility of £1300.
I have opened a new 0% credit card, the Sony MBNA one with 8200 Sony points (MP3 player here I come!) and they have done a balance transfer of £1300 into my current account. I have just phoned the bank and cancelled the o/d.
I've been paying around £15 a month in o/d interest so even though there is a 3% transfer fee, equating to £39, in 2.5 months I will have saved money by doing this.

I have not been o/d free since approx 1997 so this feels great! Even though the debt has just been transferred it makes me feel in control of at least one of my accounts, and that's a lovely (unknown) feeling.

Hello all, Ive managed to reduce my debt by £20 today, I was at tescos petrol station and went to pay and there lying on the floor was a crisp £20 note staring right at me, so i picked it right up and that will go towards my credit card. Afternoon all, today I have/ will...
    - brought leftovers from last night for lunch
    - go food shopping with my priced up list and stick to it!
    - just got paid so stuck this months figures into debt spreadsheet and realised that:
    1. my biggest debt (£5k loan plus interest/ charges) is now under £5k! :)
    2. next month my council tax arrears will be paid off, giving me £40 extra to put towards something else/ save! :)
    3. next month my total debts will finally be below £10k!!! :j
It seems like such a slow process at times so it's nice to pass a few milestones, given me quite a boost today.. hope you're all having a good one too x
Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012.
