Vw transporter t5 heater won't stay on, can anyone help?

Hi all
We have a 2005 2.5tdi t5. The heater (the one on the dash that unsteams the windows, keeps your feet toasty and blows out hot air)
Comes on for about 20 seconds then goes off again. It doesn't matter if we turn it from hot to cold, the fan only blows for a short time. When we have it turned to hot, it does blow warm air.
Can anyone help?
