Carers allowance, stop one claim start another?

Hi
I'm after some advice but not sure what is allowed? Both my children get high rate dla. I received carers allowance for my eldest, but due to the worsening on her condition and that of my youngest my mum has given up her work part time to help me with my eldest (taking her to school, washing dressing).
We have been told she can claim cares allowance but as she helps for at least 35 hours a week with my eldest it would have to be claimed for her.
Am I able to claim it for my youngest and change he claim for my eldest to my mother? Or is this not allowed?
Thanks

This is perfectly possible.
How to do it is another matter. I suspect you will have to end your claim and then start another.
Then your mum can put in a claim for the eldest child.
Give them a call and see if this is the right way to do it.0 -
When my mother died I rang the CA and cancelled my claim I then put in a claim to care for my father. I was given an 8 week run-on for the original claim and then the new claim started from the date the original claim was closed.
I appreciate that this is very different from your situation and think they will end your claim straight away but the new claim should start from the date your first claim is closed. They'll have to send out the usual forms for you to fill in but the new claim will start from the date the first one ends.
Not too sure what happens with your mother's claim but would think they can start it from the date your claim ends as long as you both ring on the same day.
Good luck.0 -
Rather than request the forms it is much easier to make the 2 New claims online at gov.UK.
Phone the Carers Allowance Unit and cancel your claim, then, make the fresh claims right away online.
Be aware if your mum receives a state pension she will only receive underlying entitlement if the pension is more than £61.35 pw.
There are other scenarios such as a carers premium in a claim for Income Support or Pension Credit which depends her household income.Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0
