Bathroom Design Help Me!

Hi,

I need help designing my bathroom! I have to accommodate a washing machine too! Its a reasonably sized bathroom but is rectangular.

Please could you give me your thoughts on the:
1. Tile colours
2. Layout

Tile Colours

Option 1 - Wall tile - beige / Floor medium brown
Option 2 - Wall tile - light beige / Floor dark grey

Ive looked online and they say that having a lighter colour on the floor or matching the tiles on the walls makes the room look bigger. I wonder how true you think this is. Does anyone recommend a dark colour on the floor and if so why?

Layout
I was hoping that I could get an L shaped bath in, and also a reasonably sized sink. But also to fit a washing machine in . The builder suggested that this washing machine should be on the wall ahead as you walk into the bathroom.

I am unable to post the link as am a newbie. Could I send the link to someone please?

Your help is much appreciated!

Most of the bathroom showrooms have a free design service and will take you through the design process and give you a plan / 3D model simulated views of the design.

Beige is headed rapidly out of fashion in bathrooms.

Also you may have a problem with the washing machine in complying with the electrical regs.

Any 13a socket needs to be 3m outside zone 1, which will be difficult to achieve in any normal sized bathroom. I guess you could wire it from a flex outlet with isolator outside the room provided the machine itself has sufficient IP rating.

It goes without saying that the washing machine would have to be RCD hard-wired into the mains, you wouldn't be allowed to have a normal plug/socket unless the socket was more than 3m from the edge of the bath.

Also the washing machine would obviously have to be positioned so that it could not be touched by someone in the bath, i.e. 0.6m or more from the bath.

Finally you should check that the washing machine you intend to buy is suitable for use in a steamy bath/shower environment.

What is a 'L' shaped bath? You must be a really weird shape OP!

This may be a shower-bath: some are in the shape of a 'D', some an 'L' and some a 'P'. I got a straight one though.

Ah, with the 'bubble' at the shower end! Thanks!
  • Hi there! Thanks for all your useful comments! I have today spoke to the builders and I think my problem is solved now. They will make a built in cupboard within the bathroom so that would hide the washing machine. and they will run the mains but no switch? I'm not sure, they've done a few properties so I'm leaving them to do the work! I have also just gone with their advice on tiles of beige and brown tiles. they seem to know what would look good.

I would say beige with brown or light grey with dark grey. I wouldn't mix the browns and the greys.
