"Auto-complete" information - Site and response specific - Where's it kept? Chrome/XP

To explain a little further ....

This is when you need to login to a website and it requires (for instance) an email address and a password.

As you start to enter the email address it offers suggestions of completed addresses that match the letters (and numbers) that you have so far typed.
This appears to be a "site specific" remembering of previous logins (even unsuccessful attempts) and NOT a widespread or total offering of ALL login addresses used elsewhere.

For instance at redspottedhanky entering the 1st letter "r" offers several emails all starting with "r" that have been used at this site.
It doesn't offer any other addresses that start with "r" that I have used elsewhere.

Similarly another website offers NOTHING if you enter the letter "r", but does offer several for the letter "d"

My problem is that I now appear to have a couple of sites where it does not offer to "auto-complete" the email login (where I have up to half a dozen choices and this is most useful) despite logging in on numerous occasions it doesn't appear to have remembered any of them.
The odd thing is that it does offer to complete other addresses that have never been used for these sites.

So where is this information that is site and input box specific stored?
And can it be edited so that I can ADD those that it doesn't have at present which it refuses to "learn" ?

The OS is WinXP and I'm using the Chrome browser

Thanks

cheers

YOu can find the password manager in Settings-Advanced Settings in Chrome.

Certain websites tell the browser not to store passwords (such as bank sites) but I think this can be bypassed.

I think the OP is talking about the "Form & Search history" and not the password manager.

Ooop, serves me right for skimming through the OP

The web form part is in the same place as the password manager in settings.

Thanks for this but I've already been down this route.

The AUTOFILL setting "Addresses" contains 3 NAMES and associated addresses etc.
    "Credit Cards" is BLANK

    Under "Manage Passwords"

    "Saved Passwords" is BLANK
Except for "Your saved passwords will appear here. Learn more"
    "Never Saved" is "the same"
"Sites which never save passwords will appear here. Learn more"

I've never used this facility - perfectly happy to remember and enter my own :)

    So where now?

    Cookies ?
    Registry?
    Elsewhere?

Having said that I'm sure I've cleared Cookies before now and this login prompt auto complete is not affected and the same options offered remain.

Thats odd because all your saved passwords should be showing in password manager. For example I have just registered with redspottedhanky and upon logging in I am presented with the auto complete. Also, the password for redspottedhanky is in the password manager ready to be editted.

I have done some googling which suggest its a fault with Chrome and a reinstall may fix it, if you want to go down that route? (although I would consider the reset option first).

NB : It may be something to do with XP (im using win7) but as fair as I know the storing of passwords and web forms in Chrome is a Chrome feature, not an OS one.

    Here's a link to a thread on Chrome forum about the issue;

Creating a new chrome profile seems to be what fixed it for most of them.

    Regards RSH

Did you get the Chrome "Password Manager" pop up box and actually ask it to save the password?
Because that would make sense with the results.

In my case I get the login auto-complete offering the email addresses BUT I've NEVER asked it to save/store/remember the associated password therefore there is nothing for the password manager to remember hence it's NOT there for editing.
    Make sense ?

BUT the login address is remembered somewhere

    Thanks for this.

Checked it out but it's not this.

This is all to do with passwords not existing (when they did) or newly being remembered.
I've NEVER tried to remember a password and not trying to now.

Going back to RSH, I've just typed "zaqooooop" into Email and some crap into Password and hit return

I now ONLY have to type "z" into Email and a drop down appears with "zaqooooop" in it.

NO Chrome password manager box popped up so never tried to save this, but it HAS remembered and offering the Email entry!

So it is working - just not on some websites apparently ...

... where it appears to offer other "inputs" that have never been entered there. :(

AND to get rid of it you "select" and use SHIFT DELETE - then it's gone :)

When you get the list of email address, highlight the one you want to delete and press SHIFT and DELETE

Edit : I see you've just written that above lol

Im with you now. You can delete them but you cant edit them. They're stored in you profile file in Chrome. THere might be some chrome "Add On"s to access it but it doenst look like there's a option in the settings to get at it.
