Why was I accepted for a new contract?

So basically I've just been accepted for a 51/month contract with Three despite of having a 1/5 star credit rating (Experian). My credit rating is because of missed payments when I was on a contract with T-mobile and failed to pay my bills for 3 months in one instance, 2months and 1 month on another instance but I dont owe them anything now. I came up with three theories for that:
1. Other companies(EE, Tesco, giffgaff and O2) refused me a couple of days ago because I had two contracts (36/month each) at the time but today one of them ended and I paid the cancellation charge. Now that I have one contract I seem more likely to be able to pay my bills and other lender would have accepted me. I also just pad my outstanding balance with T-mobile before placing the order
2. Three is really an irresponsible lender and just wants the money without considering whether people can afford their bills.
3. Because I ordered online, their credit check wasn't as stringent as it would in a store and that was the reason why I was accepted

There was just a tick on top of the page saying credit check complete. I thought I was rejected but I then called them and they said all checks have been performed and you will receive your phone by Wednesday.0 -
Almost certainly yes, through one or more of the agencies. They just see the raw data, not the agencies' interpretations of the data.but they do perform credit checks dont they?
