Making broth and other money saving meals.

It's that time of the year again and we've just made broth for the first time. As always we've made masses - I don't think you can make soup in small batches.

I doubt very much there's another way, apart from stew, to create a meal out of totally fresh ingredients which is so satisfying, lasts so long and for so little money.

Any comments?

    What do you use for your stock? Do you use shin bone, ham hock or something else?

    How much do you make at a time. how do you store it, freezer? How long will it last?
    I started out with nothing......And still have most of it left:p

    We use shin with the meat on the bone. In fact this time we bought it without a bone as an experiment.

    We make about 20 portions at a time. Usually we finish up freezing about 1/3 of that. I've never checked how long it lasts for but we haven't died yet.

    Sorry - not your influence - had bought them on sunday to make soup this week before you posted
