It isn't ridiculous. As a mother and a scientist it needs doing and on time. And could be problematic esp if you dont speak spanish and aren't registered. So yes you would probably have to pay for it and arrange it in advance.

You'd also have to know exactly what is needed and when for your child, and not all countries vaccinate for all diseases. One pertinent in this case is Meningitis C which was only agreed by UK authorities last week.

Are you so expert as to know if Spain offers the jab? I would want my child to have it

Sorry still ridiculous. Spain is not the 3rd world and finding an English speaking doctor will not be a problem.

Do a bit of research, find a doctor (or private clinic) and get it done. This is hardly a complicated topic and should not be blown out of proportion.

What if the spanish haven't made all vaccinations available such as the one I mentioned? The UK isn't a 3rd world country yet only got an agreement with t he drugs company recently. Given t he state of Spain's finances I would think they aren't offering this new vaccination.

I hope for any children's sake you weren't in charge of their medical treatment with your cavalier attitude.

C-Dog, see your pediatrician before you go abroad and make sure the country you choose offers every vaccination they need. If not, delay until you have all the required vaccinations done here.

Made good headway last month with savings/investments and crossed over the 50% threshold on which I'd count myself truly financially independent. This month should be equally good, but the investments are at the mercy of the markets right now.

Is it wrong to hope for a market downturn? Being so early in my investing career, I would love a little bear market to buy shares on the downward slope rather than the upward one we've generally had for the past two years. Whats pretty spectacular is I've managed an average 10k saving rate per month for this period. Thats kind of astronomical when you think that only a few years ago right out of university my salary was 11.5k annually.

Market downturns are good times for investing new capital, so yes.

But your pot will shrink as well and no longer be 50% of that is a worry to you?

    good work c-dog

as a dad of 4 my advice:
    * an earlier poster said save more expensive holidays for when they are older - I agree - we had lovely holidays but since 2008 have had to tighten purse strings when the kids would have enjoyed the more
    * kids love the seaside full stop and don't care if its tenerife or tenby - if you can live with a bit of weather volatility
    * the first 6 weeks after baby is born will seem like forever, then the next 6 months will seem like another forever - but its only half a year and then it gets worse (only joking - it gets lots better) 6 months to 2 years is prob my favorite time
    * babies sleep far more than you will think - sometimes you need to go with the flow and relax - other times they can be sleeping on you while you read or watch moves or ipad (sadly I once wrote a £500K proposal with two kids asleep on me for 2 hours :-)

anyway I'm getting all sentimental now so better stop especally as my youngest is just 15 and nearly 6'
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine

Not at all Atush. I plan to keep adding in the downturn and I have a lump sum to add at some point also, so I'm fine with the swings. It would just be a whole lot nicer for it early in this process. But you can't control the markets.

Cheers for the advice mark88man. I'm extremely excited to become a dad and its seemed like forever since October when I was first starting this thread. Everything in here is for my wife and daughter and it's been rightly pointed out that losing time now with them both really isn't a good achievement even when the goals are aligned to something bigger.

I've been trying to get things moving on auto pilot and I do seem to just save/invest automatically now which is a great thing. My plan from now is to invest 500,000 in my various tax shelter and otherwise accounts.

After than its to have 500,000 outside of my pension. We'll just have to wait and see how that goes

Nice to see you bouncing back YBM, and it does get better, as myself and OP can vouch. How long are you planning to pay the CCJ over? I'm sure you've posted it somewhere, but I've completely forgotten.

It was officially ruled as an out of court settlement(hence the high repayments+interest) so its not an offical CCJ, theres no mention of it on my credit file. I am saying 3 years from now at absolute most to clear it as once its down to <£20k i will probably be buying another property so will have to extend payment term to bring down the outgoing expense which tbh il be happy enough doing as will feel its under control then once payment is under 10% of income as right now its about 35% of income. Thanks for asking CK, iv a thread on repayment(see my sig) if you fancy popping in

It's all becoming very very real lol. Starting to come to terms with the fact there's a baby in there.

DW leaves the workplace on Friday and if truth be told, I don't think she'll return to full time work again. She has her own venture that is currently run evenings and weekends, she could scale this up slightly and not come back to office life. It's all very much wait and see, fortunately we're in a pretty sweet position, that she doesn't need to be in the workforce full time.

Absolutely flat out in work which is brilliant on the accounts front. Continuing with more of the same. ISA is filled for the year, DWs is now started and we'll fill it sharpish. After that it's straight into the taxable account. Should get there by the time jnr arrives.

Might go back and double read this thread. See whats changed and whats remained constant. You're right atush, I'm not deviating from this track....yet.
