Capital one accepted me then declined me!

Hi all
I am looking for a bit of advice about a rather strange situation,any feedback would be grateful.
I have had poor credit for years now but have finally got my self sorted and have only one settled default on my credit report which is due to drop off next year in june.I have two catalogue accounts which are in limits and no missed payments.

I applied for a capital one credit card online and had the normal 'we will be in touch in 7-10 days response' about a week later i got an acceptance letter and signed the attached credit aggrement and sent it back.About four days later i called them up to check they had recieved my credit agreement as i had sent it during the postal strike only to be informed on the phone that my application had been declined!!! i was rather shocked and confused at this as they sent me an accceptance letter and then they changed their minds, the lady i spoke to said that they must have had some new information from the credit reference agencies that made them change their minds!

The only thing that had changed on my credit report since them accepting me and declining me was 6 yes 6 searches made by carphone warehouse idiots doing multple searches that i did not authorise,would this really be enough reason for them to turn me down?

should i appeal against their decision?( the woman on the phone said i should just wait 6 months and re apply!)

if i were to appeal what type of thing should i say?

Any one who has been in a simalar sitiuation or even anyone who has any advice please help!

hi just wait the card still may come, some people have had the same experience a letter of acceptanca and a letter saying declined then the card comes!

Contact Carphone Warehouse and request that they remove the excess searches immediately, it's very easy for them to do - a simple fax to Experian/Equifax from a company that did this to me was all it took! Sorted within 24 hours.
Once they've done this, check with Experian/Equifax to make sure the additional searches have been removed, then contact Capital One and let them know the searches were not authorised and so have now been removed.

thankyou for your replys,I have been in touch with the carphone warehouse and the manager there has said he will remove the searches,so i think my next move will be to wait until they have gone then send a coopy of my credit report to capital one,the problem is i dont really know if it is because of these searches that they have declined my application as they cant give you details!
I shall appeal against there decision,has anyone ever appealed against them and got approved?
I wonder wether it is worth the price of a stamp!

Capital one wont give a specific reason for decliing you but you should have received a letter from them confirming that they hvae declined you and on what basis - norma\l due to credit referencing

if they have based their decline on the carphone warehouse then you can send them a copy of the report showing that the erenous entries have been removed
