Can Anyone Hep Me With a Couple of Questions Please??

Hi all.

First of all, can anybody suggest a good popup blocker please?

The one I had slowed my PC right down and wouldnt stop many of them. Ideally I could do with one that doesn't require any "techie" knowledge as I'm a bit of a 'simpleton' when it comes to computers :-(

Secondly, does anybody know if its possible to connect either a Desktop PC or a Laptop to a regular (not LCD or Plasma or HD Ready) television to watch things, like internet TV or a Satanta Sports Channel online subscription etc?

I'm looking to buy either a new Desktop PC or Laptop in the next couple of weeks/months. My father and I are HUGE footy fans (c'mon you reds! Man Utd!) and we are a member of an "Intenet TV on Your PC" site, where we get to watch some of the games that are not televised livei the UK. Because my monitor is a bit pooh pooh, it wold b brilliant if we could hook it up to our TV an watch it via that instead.

I saw that you could buy something called a "DVB-T Stick" which you stick in your Laptop and get all of the Freeview channels so you can watch it on your Laptop when your in the car (not advised when driving ;-) or whenever you want.

So I thought if I decided to get a Laptop, I could buy that "DVB-T Stick" for £29.99 I think it was, then buy whatever lead(s) I'd need to connect it up to our TV and enjoy!

But is hs just my feeble imagination running riot with the usual "what if'" and "imagine if", or can it actually be done?

Any help woud be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all!

    :)

I have a Happuage WIN-TV package that I picked up in Dixons. Two types, one is analogue and one is digital, which gives you all the freeview stuff. Just install it and away you go! It plugs into your USB port and you just run an arial lead from the USB part to the wall socket. If you dont have a wall socket, it comes with a little arial! I'll try and find you a link. :)

Dont know how easy it would be to run it to the TV though :(

I use a PC as a PVR using XP MCE (media centre), it's permenantly hooked up to the TV. As my TV is quite old, it is not suitable for use as a monitor, but great for the TV stuff.

To hook up to the TV, I use a S-video to video lead (from PC graphics card) and a 3.5mm to Audio L+R cable (from PC sound card), then a video/sound cable 3 connectors yellow, red and white to a Scart plug to connect to the TV.

Sounds complicated but isn't really, if you get a more modern PC and depending on your TV connections, you will probably need different interface cables.

I hope you can understand my less than perfect explanation.

You don't need a tv card of any kind to output to a TV you need a graphics card with a TV output on it. A v card allows you to watch TV on your PC
