Advice needed, very desperate

Hi

Sorry if I am posting in the incorrect place however I am new here.

I'm not sure where to start but basically I need help on what to do or where to go as the stress of constantly being in debt is making death look like a good option.

I have a number of outstanding debts that I have chosen to hide from

Student Loan (automatically comes out of my salary)
Student overdraft with Santander
T mobile phone bill
BT phoneline
I owe my sister £3000
*There may be more but I am too frightened to do a credit check and have bailiffs looking for me.

I have no credit cards or no overdraft on my account, I have a regular cash account with Barclays. However I have taken some payday loans with UncleBuck due to desperation - the only good thing is this has all been paid off. I really do not want to have to do this again as I end of paying double what i borrowed as it is only a short term solution.

I need to pay my sister her money before December whilst trying to move house. I have been trying to pay her back but the amounts plus my rent has constantly left me back in square one for the last two months.

I can't cope and do not know how I can clear this mess up. My money management skills are zero... I can admit that! I am due to move in December God knows how I am going to afford that and pay my sister back.

If anyone can advise me I would really appreciate it.

Thank you in advance.

Death is never a good way out. There is no debt problem out there that there is no way out of.
Try https://capuk.org/ Christians against Poverty. They will help you - you dont have to be a Christian or become one, they are very highly regarded and can help you - especially if, as you say, you have no money management skills

Sorry to hear of your situation. There is a way out of every problem. First of all I'd recommend giving Stepchange a call as they are brilliant. They are a charity and won't judge you from mistakes you've made in the past.

May be useful as well to do a statement of affairs on here so people can help and advise you.

We will help you get through this and you've already taken the biggest step to overcoming your problems, by asking for help.

    Good luck x
  • Thank you both for taking the time to respond, I will call stepchange and CAPUK now.

What is a statement of affairs and how do I find it please?

    Hi,
There is always a solution to a debt problem, from what you have posted, the debts are all non essential, you say there may be more, are you up to date with your council tax and other essential bills, (electric/gas/ etc) ?
I would suggest you contact either step change or National Debt line.
Both can give you some excellent free advice on what your options may be, and believe me, there is always a way to deal with these things.

I didn't want to just read and run. You have already had brilliant advice from the previous posters so all I want to add is there is always a way out of the debt trap. It may be a long journey but it can be done as many, many that people have shown here in the past.

It's very scary at first an many of us would testify, myself included but no amount of money is worth your life.

The debt charities are brilliant. I'm with Payplan and know hat they have made dealing with debt much more bearable.

Stick around here where you will get loads of support and advice you need from people who know how you are feeling.

Good luck with sorting everything out. You can do it.:)

    Hi,
Well done on seeking help :)
If you have a read of the debtfree sticky on the main debtfree wannabe page it will give you lots of information for newbies and advice on how to complete a statement of affairs (or SOA).
People will then be able to have a look for you and give you some advice.

Didn't want to read and run either but I just had to comment. I think many of us have thought of doing something drastic before facing up to finances as the pressure can seem so great but well done on taking the first steps to being back in control.

You need to be honest with yourself now and with support you can do this!! We'll be here every step of the way and there are charities that can also help.

You are not alone and you are def on the right track now.

    Best of luck!!!
  • The main or should I say immediate debt is the one I have to pay my sister. I'm struggling to pay because I has been paying my payday loan back alongside my rent and general day to day expenses.

Council tax is up to date, my gas and electric is on a key so I pay for that weekly. My TV License and water unfortunately has not been paid for in a few months while this has been spiraling out of control,

I called stepchange however as it was on my lunch break I have to call back after work to speak to an adviser to review the information I have given them.

Thank you all so much for your advice, every week I am frightful a new debt is going to come out of the woodworks. It is time to face this..

I know how you must be feeling right now as I felt the same when it felt like everything was crumbling around me. That was coming up to 2 years ago now and although I am still in a lot debt things have improved so much.

You have come to the right place, that must have been a difficult thing to do in itself, so well done for taking the first step.
