Investment trust-losing money...

I'm no investment guru but i would invite general comments on the following...
on 5/11/13 i bought 875 units of PLI (perp income &growth)
The cost was £3000
The total dividends paid so far amount to £117
Today my holding is worth 3175 although we have had a bad week last week.
Is it really worth the risk for such a seemingly small return?
EDIT forgot to mention all divis reinvested..

Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

That doesn't seem to match the figures shown on Trustnet.

Looks like around 7% plus another 3% for dividends.I am one of the Dogs of the Index.0 -

But if you don't like the returns, or the prospects of returns (or losses), then feel free to just walk away and leave the opportunities to us "investment gurus"ChesterDog wrote: »That doesn't seem to match the figures shown on Trustnet.

OK..thanks for clarifying and I'll admit that sums are far from being by strong point.

Just looking again at PLI,,it looks to be trading at a tempting discount at the moment albeit almost ex divi..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Also bear in mind that dividends lag purchases and sales, so you will often not see divis for 3/6 months after purchase, but you can then see then for a while after sale.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -
I invest in it, and have been happy the past decade or so.0

I invested at the beginning in 1996 and have been very pleased with the dividends and capital growth.
A certain Neil Woodford was at the helm then IIRC.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
4% not great after the last 12 months but that probably does more to highlight the choice of the UK rather than the IT which is a decent one. I'd be looking at my UK exposure and wondering if this has a place, I imagine the near 2% fall today won't have settled your nerves :-)
Seriously though, this is a decent fund. I don't hold it myself but would be happy to do so.0 -

-2.84% is a bigger discount than average for that trust. But with a hefty 0.9% TER it still doesn't look in bargain territory to me..... http://markets.ft.com/research/Markets/Tearsheets/Summary?s=PLI:LSE“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0
