Advice about installing ensuite.

I'm looking at alternatives to getting an extra toilet/shower in my home. So I have another post on here about converting the garage.
If I can't afford or be allowed to convert the garage what do I need to consider when trying to get an ensuite in my bedroom.
It's nowhere near the current bathroom or the current toilet soil pipe. There's no where on that side of the house to install anything as it's the stairs side. So how do you get a toilet on the opposite side of the house. How much is an ensuite likely to cost and what things must I consider in trying to do this? Do I need a plumber or a builder?
It's a traditional 1960's 3 bed semi so theres just nowhere downstairs to add a room as I don't want to extend.
Thanks everyone.

I have just had fitted an ensuite in what sound slike a similar situation.
Budget on £3-10K depending on all sorts of factors such as size, quality, finish and how much building work is required (how many walls, doors windows etc).
If your ensuite is nowhere near the soil pipe you have to use a macerator (google saniflow). They work fine if regularly cleaned and not asked to macerate anything unusual.
Get a plumber or builder but whichever you get put him in charge of the whole thing and make sure he works regularly with the other. In my case we hired a builder to run the build who was recommended by a plumber (and used that plumber) the builder was in charge and coordinated everything.0 -

Thanks Fred. I've seen those toilets in the holiday cottage we had in Scotland. It had a sign saying human waste only and no nappies etc so I'll do a bit more googling on that.
I think I need a part of a wall knocked through so will as you suggest get someone who does the lot and quotes for the whole job .0 -
We put a small en suite shower room in our bedroom. There was a fitted wardrobe, which we used as a base and build it outwards, doubling its depth.
We have a decent size showered, small basin and a loo, with macerator. It's great.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

That's gret to hear thanks. Would you mind sharing how much it cost - you could pm me?pollypenny wrote: »We put a small en suite shower room in our bedroom. There was a fitted wardrobe, which we used as a base and build it outwards, doubling its depth.

I too was thinking of using the built in wardrobe as part of it and maybe having to pinch a bit from the next door bedroom too although it would only need a small bit of that. I've found a site called bathroom guru leeds which gives a lot of info so there's a bit more hope than I had previously subject to price & funds
