Help converting paper doc to word doc.

Hi,

Does anyone know of a free software that will convert a scanned paper document text into word or other format so it can be copied and pasted without the need to retype the whole paper file.

The document has been typed in word but we only have a paper copy as the electronic file copy has been lost or deleted.

Try FreeOCR from http://www.paperfile.net/

Don't use it much as I use the OCR that came with my scanner. If you have a scanner then you might already have OCR software.
If not and you have a good digital camera then you could take a photo of each page and then use the OCR software on the image (if it has that facility).

OCR software varies in quality and complexity (such as where forms or graphics are included in mainly text documents) so you may need to try one out to find out how good it is.

If you have saved the scan as a PDF then there are plenty of online sites that will also convert the document using OCR, depending on how sensitive the content is it can be another option
