    If you are sistering a beam I would suggest that you are doing it for a reason which is adding additional load, and thus BC should be involved to sign off the calcs and installation.

    Sorry - should have made clear.

    No additional load, no extension, no additional room up above or anything.

    Repair and maintenance is excluded from Buildings Regulations notifications. Just be careful to follow good practice, and you may want to take some photos in case one day your house is being sold and you are asked about any work you have undertaken.

    Of course, the alternative would be to stay quiet and claim nothing had been done, but that is your decision.
