My daughter wants to buy a camera that uses film. However, she is very much a novice so wants something that auto focuses etc, but will give better results than the disposable camera she used on holiday. She does not want something too expensive, and I do not know what to suggest.
She does not want to have to adjust the apature for light and distance as I used to have to do (not always successfully) with my old 35mm camera. Can any of you photographers give any suggestions as to a specific camera or a type of camera, please?
MANY THANKS, LINDA.

Honestly, unless there's a pressing reason, I'd use a digital. Even camera and film manufacturers are stopping producing film.
What she is wanting simply doesn't exist.0 -
You'd end up wasting fortunes developing and buying film.0

I agree with the above. There's no good reason to go with film. I hardly used my 35mm cameras but since getting my panasonic digital I use it all the time. Try using film camera for the odd ebay item, impossible. I find I'm incorporating it into more everyday stuff, as a memory aid, reference etc. Easier to take photo of computer errors than writing it down or copying model numbers or prices of things in shops. Loads easier to use than a film camera.
Do you have a good reason it must be film because I can't think of a single one? It's hard to recommend an obsolete technology, it's like someone asking which is the best vcr."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

If you can still find one, I'd suggest an Olympus Mju 2 : http://photo.net/olympus/mjuII
This was my last film camera before I moved over to digital in 1998 and it was such an amazing film camera. Tiny, great lense, fully auto. It was about 80 pounds back in 1996.
You can buy the zoom model from Argos but if you're looking for cheap, you could get the Kodak K270 Autofocus Camera, also from Argos.
If you want a budget, decent digital camera, you could go for something like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Digimax-S500-Digital-Optical/dp/B000F3RSWK/ref=sr_1_24/026-0783380-5724455?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1185167971&sr=1-24
Honestly, don't get 35mm. It's a dead format. Digital is now better and works out cheaper. 1gb memory cards that hold 400 photos are now under 10 pounds. You only print the photos you want and the technology on digital camera is outstanding0 -
