PC keeps tripping off--- Please help

Recently my PC has beguin acting v strangely.
Basically whenever I try to write something to a disc using Nero the PC tower trips off as if it's blown a fuse. It hasn't blown a fuse but I have to remove the fuse from the plug & then put it back in (put the same fuse back in & I can do it immediately) before I can get it to switch back on again. It doesn't happen immediately, sometimes it will start to burn the disc and go for ½ or 1½ hrs and then do it or sometimes it will happen immediately. I have tried leaving the PC off for several hours to ensure it's cool befoe I try to burn to no avail.
I though it must be a problem with my dvd drive so thought I would convert the files using Nero Burning Rom and write them to my c drive and then at a later date write them to the disc (as it's much quicker if they're already converted) that would get round the problem. But that doesn't work either, about the same sort of time scale & the PC trips off while writing to c drive.
The other day I was due to defrag and it tripped off while part way through the defrag.
I have zillions of photos, documents and video files I don't want to lose but can't get the damned thing to stay on long enough to get them onto a disc. I have 23% free space available so don't think it's too full. I'm at my wits end. If anyone can offer any advice I would be grateful.

i think it's one the psu gone duff or your ram thats gone duff or both??,
it also mite be a bug that you have picked up ??
i think it mite be a old psu thats on it's last leggs because if you are not burning or using the burner for reading it will be ok or other thing that are on your pc ,when you us it/them ,it us power that pushes your psu to far and turns pc off ,yesthere or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0 -
It could be a cooling problem - are the fans working is the heat sink on the cpu fitted properly. Are they clogged up with dust and stuff.
Does it only do it when trying to burn stuff?0 -
I checked the vents and they are clear. It sounds as if the fan is working.
It only happens when I'm burning either to disc or hard drive, it also happens if I use the burn-at-once option and when I try to defrag c drive.
Any suggestions how to get my stuff off the PC before it goes completely t*ts up? I have about 9gb of stuff I really don't want to lose.0 -
USB Pen or open a gmail account and if you use firefox download the gspace add on and drag your file across
Each account holds about 2.8 gb but you can open as many as you want.
Give us a nod if your want the links.0 -
Just a thought have you checked the device manager to see if there are any yellow exclamation marks next to your drives0

It sounds like the power supply unit .
There is a program called speedfam that is free and will help you to monitor your P.C.the link is herehttp://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php
underneath the header saying download just click on the blue text that says speedfan 4.32 .
As usual with all downloads scan for viruses....Even my good word is no gaurantee .
But it is a small program that does just what it says on the tin .
it will give you temps volts and even has an on-line hard disk checker ...I am in no way connected with this website or software.0 -
hi there I had same problem ,and I tryed everything ,ie replacing psu and then taking other things out of cumputer ,I then took out a ram 256 stick as I do have 2 ram sticks in my computer ,so far it has been working fine now for last few weeeks, so try this if you have more than 1 ram stick installed ,take one out at a time this may be the same problem as me0

a bad psu and ram give you the same fault ,before you go and buy a psu please try taking your ram out if you have more than one stick and swop them over (one stick at a time ,one stick in at a time)there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0
